The Madi Piller Anijam Award

Toronto Animated Image Society is thrilled to announce the renaming of the Anijam Residency Award to the Madi Piller Anijam Award in recognition of Madi’s significant contribution to TAIS as president, grant writer, curator, and much more over more than 10 years.

The winner of the Madi Piller Anijam Award will be awarded a cash prize of $500.00 CAD and 3 week residency with in-kind studio use including equipment toward production of a short animated project for presentation at the TAIS Showcase the following year.

About Madi

Madi Piller was born in Lima, Peru. She is an independent filmmaker, animator, mentor, curator based in Toronto, Canada.

Madi’s films have been screened at film festivals, alternative spaces and contemporary art venues nationally and internationally. Her work has been produced independently and with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council as well as produced by The National Film Board.

She created the Petman Studio Immersion Program giving artists capacity for research and creation in animation, film, hybrid forms of production and Augmented Reality. She programs animation and experimental hybrid work nationally and internationally. Her curatorial projects include: Eleven in Motion: Abstract Expressions in Animation; Hello Amiga; OP ART Re- Imaged: Imaginable Spaces; The Frame is the Keyframe: Frame Anomalies; FROM A to Z in Vienna; My Home Here in Peru; MOVEMENT: Toronto<>Vienna; Art et imaginaire; Site Unseen (in development) are Augmented Reality projects to date.
