TAIS SHOWCASE: Competition & Gala Screening + Anijam
THURSDAY October 13th 7:00pm The Royal Theatre 608 College St. Toronto, ON The 16th Annual TAIS Animation Showcase Gala Competition features 17 short animated films (approx 80 minutes) from across Canada and around the world, offering a snapshot of contemporary animation that explores the endless possibilities of the animated image.

TAIS SHOWCASE: Matinee Screening + Anijam
SUNDAY October 16th 1:00pm The Carlton Cinema 20 Carlton St. Toronto, ON The Showcase Matinee features an out-of-competition selection of 12 short animations (approx 63 minutes) from established and emerging artists from Canada and around the world.

Artist talk: Sacha Beeley Date:⋅ October 14th 7:00pm Location: 1411 Dufferin St. Unit B FREE!! No registration required. Please join us on October 14th 7:00pm at TAIS for an in person artist talk with Sacha Beeley, a 2022-23 TAIS Artist in Residence! Light refreshments will be served. *Please come prepared to wear a mask. TAIS still requires indoor masking at this time.

SATURDAY October 15th Experiment with movement as you design & animate a unique dancing character. This is a 3 hour workshop where we’ll make a 2D looping dance move in time to music. I’ll teach you 2D digital techniques, strategies for making freaky movements, and help you develop your character design skills. We can talk about where we draw inspiration from for character design and how we can use animation to create unique character movement. I’ll teach you my 2D frame-by-frame method on Photoshop and a simple technique to create a looping dance move. We’ll chat about music with animation: how does your own taste in dance affect your character design? How do you imagine your character would dance to the song? I’ll be demonstrating in Photoshop in this workshop but it’s open to other frame-by-frame programmes too. Use the workshop to make whatever you like! I’d love to put all the loops together later on for the full 2D disco.
About the Instructor
Sacha Beeley is an animator & visual artist. After completing her MA in Animation, Sacha’s graduate film, Big Toast, was met with industry-wide praise and caught the attention of London-based production company Strange Beast who have represented her for commercial work ever since. She creates surreal and playful animations with character-driven storytelling. Her work has been screened internationally at festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival, San Diego Underground Arts Festival, Athens Animfest and Flatpack Festival. Sacha currently lives and works in London.
