Call for Emerging Artists to the Toronto Animated Image Society’s:

Asia in My Mind – Summer Animation Workshop with visiting artist from Japan: Maya Yonesho

Submission Deadline: Friday June 6, 2014

The Toronto Animated Image Society (TAIS) is seeking three emerging artists (19-28) for our three day Summer Animation Workshop with visiting artist from Japan: Maya Yonesho. Under Maya’s instruction for three days July 7, 8, and 9, 2014 at the TAIS Studio, artists will make short abstract experimental animated films, synchronized with music, sound and landscape imagery.

Maya Yonesho

Maya Yonesho was born in 1965 Hyogo, Japan. After working as an art teacher at a junior high school for several years, she returned to college to study Japanese painting and conceptual & media art at Kyoto City University of Arts and also worked for a children\’s TV program as a clay animator. After receiving her MA of fine art (1998), she began making independent films and conducting various animation workshops.

She has been a lecturer at several Art Universities since 2000. Due to a scholarship for foreign artists she now lives and works in Vienna

Selected Artists will receive:

• TAIS full studio membership. Worth $150, includes access to Studio space and equipment.
• $250 cash honorarium
• 3 day intensive workshop with Maya Yonesho
• Opportunity to screen their work at The Japan Foundation

Each application must include

• Resume
• Brief bio (bio 250 words max)
• Samples of recent work (CD or DVD for time based artists or 10 images for visual artists)
• A self addressed stamped envelope. Submissions without an envelope will not be returned.

Presentation: This workshop will culminate in an evening screening at The Japan Foundation on Friday July 11, 2014.

Selected artists will be announced on Thursday June 12, 2014
