Smoothness in Pixelation Animation

November 9, 2015  |  10am-12noon (not open to the public)  | Art Gallery of Ontario, Weston Family Learning Centre

Pixilation is a form of Stop-Motion animation that involves using human actors as the subject and model instead of clay or puppets. It is favoured for its charming and whimsical style and for the speed at which it can be produced. This workshop will be a 2-hour run though of some of the intermediate principles of stop-motion and pixelation, which will begin with a brief introduction to Pixelation. A few examples will be shown of some of the best Pixilation animation, with an emphasis on examining \’smoothness.\’ A collaborative workshop project will then be the focus for the remainder of the session.

Workshop Instructor: Wesley Blondin is an accomplished animator from Toronto who has been working in the industry for 3 years, mostly in the commercial and TV sector. During his time at Cuppa Coffee Studios and Tinman Creative, Wesley has filled many roles including stop-motion animator, character designer, score composer, and project lead. His multi-disciplined approach to both teaching and production is the cornerstone of his practice. Wesley is currently working on a self-directed short film with the assistance of the Toronto Animated Image Society.
