Today we’re announcing two updates to TAIS Studios.
First, we’re excited to officially announce the opening of a new studio space! Studio 6 is designed to be a 2D animation workspace for hand-drawn & digital animation.
This 9’6″x9’6″ space features a 2024 Mac Mini, a Wacom Cintiq 22HD and a BenQ 4k UHD monitor, as well as animation lightboxes and a flatbed scanner. The space can also be adapted for production in other animated mediums.
To book Studio 6, fill out the Studio Reservation Request Form on our Production Studios page. As a reminder, studio space bookings and use are only open to current TAIS Studio Members.
This new studio was made possible thanks to our recent renovations with funding from the Ontario Trillium Fund (OTF).
Second, we are announcing an increase to our studio rental rates. The new rates are available now on our Production Studios page.
This is the first time TAIS rental rates have increased since 2014. Over the past 12 years TAIS has maintained low rates as a way to reduce barriers to access for artists. Maintaining those rates is unfortunately no longer sustainable. For that reason, we’re now raising them to bring them in line with the rate of inflation.
We know that affordability is an issue for so many artists, which is why we continue to enable access to resources through our Studio Production Support Program (SPS). The subsidized rates offered through this program remain unchanged. We encourage all low-income, unemployed and underemployed artists who would are interested in booking a studio to apply. The application form can be found on our Production Studios page. Additionally, TAIS offers a volunteer program which provides volunteers with credits based on living wage rates. Those credits can be used towards studio rentals. Visit our Volunteer page to learn more.
