She studied Experimental Animation at OCAD University, exploring video production, sound design and illustration along her animated practice. In 2023, worked on Birutė Sodekaite’s short, In Perpetuum, doing visual effects as an intern at Stop Motion Department Inc. Liz’s most recent work visualizes one of her mother’s anecdotes from a childhood in Soviet-era Moscow, in a 2-minute animated documentary called Zhivachka. The film premiered in the Student Competition at Ottawa Animation Festival in September of 2023. Zhivachka went on to earn an honorable mention at the Sommets du Cinema d’Animation in Montreal (2024). This year, she assisted the fabrication team on Go Togo! at Gazelle Automations (airing Sept. 2024).

About the Project

A woman slithers away from her obnoxious date. She stretches her spaghetti legs towards the exit, revealing the world of the restaurant floor along the way. Her date scarfs down his steak, oblivious. “Hey, thought u would get and I would reimburse” is a one-minute stop motion short which explores relationships and modernity. Its humor is grounded in our flaws, and the way they clash with societal expectations. Two characters aim to select a mate, yet neither can uphold their end of the social contract. Each takes an approach that reflects modern issues, which is juxtaposed by their anachronistic, UPA inspired setting. Have things really changed?
