For Drawn Animation 102, participants should already have a bit of knowledge of basic techniques in classic hand-drawn animation but still consider themselves to be beginners. This course is open to anyone, and will build from Drawn Animation 101, though participants do not need to take the 101 course in order to sign-up for 102.

Participants are invited to bring a drawing of a character they’ve created (the instructor will also provide a character for those who haven’t made their own yet). The first day will focus on how to animate this character doing a variety of movements and actions, from basic to more advanced. The second day will cover the basics of lip sync: breaking down mouth shapes, and expanding on way the character movement can help convey the dialogue. Participants will be shown how to act out a line of dialogue, and how this can help them animate the movement with a better understanding of the character and its emotions.

Noam Sussman is a freelance 2D animator and an art director at 9 Story. In the past he’s worked with Disney TV, Jib Jab, Tinman Creative, Guru, as well as other studios in a variety of roles.
