TAIS 2023-24 MICRORESIDENCY ARTISTS


Ivyy Chen

Ivyy will be in the TAIS Studios from October 25th – November 15th 2023

BIO: Originally from Taiwan, Ivyy Chen is an Animation filmmaker and Illustrator living in London, UK. Inspired by her own experiences, she explores the intricate tapestry of human emotions through her unique use of emotive colours and everyday objects, particularly Chairs. Her self-initiated film isle of Chair has been selected by several international festivals including TAIS Showcase and won the Animasian Award at Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival 2020. Her latest animated documentary Learning Disabilities in Primary Care won the Best Animated Documentaries in London International Animation Festival 2022.

Alexander Stewart

Alexander will be in the TAIS Studios from February 19 to March 10, 2024

Bio: Alexander Stewart received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His short films have screened internationally, including at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Ottawa International Animation Festival, the Ann Arbor Film Festival, and Image Forum in Japan. He co-curated the Flaherty NYC’s 2019 series “Puzzling”, and in 2010 co-founded the annual Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation. He lives in Los Angeles and is the director of the Experimental Animation program at CalArts.

Project description: While at TAIS, he is working on a new animation project based on the 19th-century novel “Against Nature” by Joris-Karl Huysmans.
