Workshop Description: Come step inside the magical world of Sand Animation! Through a complete hands-on approach, participants will have the opportunity to bring sand to life in their very own animated sequences.

In this 3-hour workshop, participants will not only learn the technical and creative steps involved in frame-by-frame animation using Dragonframe, but also explore the unique material qualities, and possibilities of sand as a medium of expression.   Then participants will be guided through creating their very own sequences.  This organic approach to animation will get your creative juices flowing and showcase the many possibilities that can be explored in future projects.

All equipment and materials are provided, so come out and get creative the frame-by-frame way!

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Canada, Cristal Buemi has created multilingual works through the use of platforms such as stop motion animation, collage, film, photography and digital design.  Her background in digital media (BA – Ryerson University 2009), art fundamentals (Certificate – Sheridan College 2015) and stop motion animation (MA – Bau Design College of Barcelona 2016) are showcased through her mixed media approach that integrates old techniques with new technologies.  Her work is driven by the exploration of materials and how to utilize them in innovative ways. .  Both her collaborative and individual works have been exhibited in Europe, North and South America.

Cristal’s passion for pedagogy and creative expression has enabled her involvement in the artistic community with various organizations such as SKETCH, Toronto Animated Image Society (TAIS), TIFF’s Outreach Programs, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada.    As a facilitator she has had the opportunity to work with participants of various ages and backgrounds by leading artistic workshops, talks and classes to help advance their creative practices.
