Workshop Description

Animating 2D effects is almost a lost art. In this course students will get hands on experience in analyzing and executing drawn special effects focusing on the elements (fire, water, smoke, explosions, etc.). We will talk about stylization and finding the forces that shape these almost abstract like forms into dynamic motion. Using paper and pencils (old school!) to explore and practice the theory, students will complete a few short sequences or animation loops that can easily be composited into their own projects later. Be it digital 2D, traditional 2D, Stop-Motion or CG, hand drawn effects can help elevate your film’s aesthetic. This course is suitable for beginner or intermediate animators.

Some stationary, and paper will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring some pencils/sharpeners and maybe erasers, if they have specific equipment they want to use. Col erase coloured pencils (blue, red, and/ or green) can be useful as well as basic 2B pencils.
