This course will provide participants with guidance and support them in familiarizing themselves with the Maya platform as we create 3D visualizations including texture mapping and lighting. We will also learn some basics of animation. Students will be able to express themselves artistically while acquiring technological understanding in a fun 4-session course. Each 3-hour lesson will consist of a lecture aspect accompanying lab exposure and personal time. This course is for those who are completely new to Autodesk Maya.

Week 1:  3 hrs: Maya interface and intro to Modeling
Week 2:  3 hrs: Shaders, textures, and utilising the Hypershade
Week 3:  3 hrs:  Animating and utilising the Graph Editor
Week 4:  3 hrs: Lighting and Rendering

IMPORTANT: Participants need to bring their own computer (Windows, OSX) with a 3 button (wheel) mouse. Please check hardware requirements and (if your computer meets these requirements) download and install Maya before coming to the workshop. Link:


Kathryn Wehrle, is an artist and educator living in Toronto. She received her BFA from Queen’s University and a post-grad in Computer Animation from Sheridan College, where she is now a member of the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design. Kathryn has worked at Toronto studios Cuppa Coffee, IMAX and Nelvana.
