The course instructor, Stephanie Dudley, is a stop motion artist based in Toronto. She started out working in motion graphics while enrolled as a Drawing and Painting student at OCAD. After working on a computer-based animation for a little too long, she returned to making art by hand: puppet making, set building, and stop motion animation. Her first stop motion projects — for which she built the sets, created puppets, and directed — were created for YTV’s BZone and TreeHouse, and won PromaxBDA (Broadcast Design Association) awards. She has since created stop motion for Teletoon, YTV, and HBO, as well as for her BravoFACT short film, Little Theatres: Homage to the Mineral of Cabbage, a visual adaptation of a poem by Erín Moure. She is currently working on the puppets and sets for her next independent short film, Invisible Harvests. She loves creating miniature worlds, and is drawn to making poetic films that reflect mood through movement and image. Click here for Stephanie’s stop motion portfolio and puppet making portfolio.
