This course is for you if:
– you have a story idea and want to develop the story into an immersive 3D world.
– you make cool 3D models and animations and want to understand how your work can fit into a story board.
– you like storytelling and want to know more about virtual world-building
Note: you do not need prior knowledge of the Unity game engine but it helps to have tried out a few of the free Beginner tutorials on the Unity site:
Course Structure:
–  Understand narrative options and create a storyboard. Get feedback from the instructor and group. (Group sharing is optional)
– Understand the basics of the Unity game engine and map out your VR story world.
– Create the first level of storyboard (more if you are a Unity pro) in Unity and plan your next steps with support from the instructor and group.
Note: There will be homework involved between workshops.

Duration: 4 sessions
2 Narrative design sessions
2 World building intro sessions with Unity game engine.

  1. Bring your own laptop. If you are unable to do so, TAIS has a limited number of laptops that can be used for the duration of the course, please email to request one. First-come-first-served.
  2. Storyboarding: your favourite storyboarding tool (digital or non-digital)
  3. Install Software: Unity game engine
  4. VR equipment: 3 Oculus or Vive headsets


Manik Perera is a digital experience designer and researcher whose work focuses on urban futures and strategies of play. She has a background in documentary filmmaking, international development/service design and communications
