Animation Movie Camp for LGTBQ Teens and Youth

What is Animazing?
Animazing is an animation art camp for up to ten (10) LGBTQ Teens and Youth, provided FREE of charge to selected applicants. Animazing is a paid program experience – those selected will each receive $500 for their participation, and assistance with public transportation costs!
Who can participate?
You must be between 13 and 23 years old, and identify as an LGBTQ individual.
How do I apply?
Complete the application form, below.
You must also include a short story about your personal experiences and challenges as a LGBTQ identified student (300 – 500 words), and a paragraph explaining your interest in making animation (50 -100 words).
When is the deadline?
July 3, 2017 Decisions will be announced by July 10, by email. Due to limited resources, the program is only able to accept up to ten (10) applicants.
What will I learn?
Learn about different styles of animation, and complete your own 1-2 minute long animated movie from start to finish, including screening for an audience!
What are the hours?
From July 31st to August 11th, the camp hours are 12:00pm to 5:00pm, at The 519
From August 14th to August 25th, the camp hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm, at TAIS
Who will be leading the activities?
The camp will be led by two LGBTQ artist mentors – Lee D’Angelo as our Animation Mentor, and Julie Hamara as our LGTBQ Mentor. Bios of the mentors are AVAILABLE HERE.
What is the Toronto Animated Image Society?
Toronto Animated Image Society (TAIS) is a non-profit art centre dedicated to the art of animation. TAIS supports independent non-commercial animation art making, with a focus on skills development. We present animation to audiences via screenings, exhibitions, and through presentations by guest artists. We regularly partner with other groups and organizations to connect with new audiences, and to inspire artists of all ages to explore animation.
